The Happiness Window

Well, today was interesting. To put it short, I spent it hungover. It has been a while since I've had a night of drinking and somehow, last night, I got roped into taking a bunch of free shots and downed one too many pints of Guinness. It was a decent night though, met a buch of good blokes behind the bar at an English pub called the Mazet (or something) who loved the fact I was Australian and kept serving me and my girlfriend free drinks. I felt it today though, that's for sure, and my poor girlfriend had to leave for work nursing her hangover. As I had the flat basically to myself, I just lounged around in my kangaroo onsie (yes, I have a kangaroo onesie, deal with it), eating oven-cooked fries and drinking loads of water until the strangest thing happened. I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone, but I've noticed that whenever I'm hungover there's a window where you no longer care about anything and you feel surprisingly good.

To narrow it down, it's as if it's a mix of realising that you don't have to do anything important during the day and the fact that the hangover is residing enough to make you feel as if you're winning, that you've survived hell and now have the luxury of purgatory ahead. During this surreal window of euphoria, I did the shopping and bought a big bag of Doritios which I knocked off whilst watching Back to the Future 3. It was heaven. I then passed the hours after playng Minecraft on my phone and avoiding doing the washing for as long as possible. Now though, I'm at the pub, typing this up, as the window has closed and I need a Bloody Mary to keep my body from suddenly going into some kind of post-hangover shock. Here's to hoping that I haven't completely rid my body of all its essential nutrients and have dodged the post-hangover blues that usually settle in the next day.

Until next time,

AC
